Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001)
In this first film, Harry Potter, an orphaned son of two powerful wizards but does not know it, has to fend for himself due to his parent’s deaths. He’s forced to live with the abusive Dursleys who don’t like him and mistreat him.
When Harry turns 11 years old, he begins attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft in England. On the way there, he gets on the wrong train and meets some new friends– one who seems supernatural, one with a keen interest in Quidditch. And when they reach their destination, they find out that Hogwarts has been turned into a school for boys by a spell cast by Professor Snape.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Twenty years ago, the Dursleys were so frightened from hearing what the news reported that they locked themselves in their house. Harry finds out he is a wizard and must face Lord Voldemort to save himself.
A year later, Harry and Ron Weasley are chosen to participate in an after-school activity by flying on broomsticks. They get into trouble with Professor McGonagall until Hermione proves that they didn’t set off any fireworks. At Hogwarts, Hagrid is allowed to keep his magical creatures which include Aragog. Unfortunately, one of the students named Gilderoy Lockhart proves himself incompetent, and two animals escape from his classroom- Cornish pixies and a baby dragon.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)
A year after the last film, Professor McGonagall assigns Harry and Ron to take care of a baby dragon that Hagrid is raising. Harry and Ron also have to rescue a girl named Hermione, taken by a murderer. They find out that Sirius Black killed her parents.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
Voldemort’s spirit is out to get Harry. In this film, they need to complete four tasks for someone to win the Triwizard Cup, which includes a dragon, a sphinx, water-dwelling creatures, and a maze. Harry has fought with Voldemort many times already.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
In this film, Harry learns that Lord Voldemort killed his parents because they opposed him. Now, Harry is a teenager in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He must protect himself from the Dark Forces by Professor Dumbledore. But even Dumbledore cannot protect Harry and his friends from the evil forces of Voldemort.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
In this film, Harry becomes an adult wizard as he leads a group of classmates to save Ron’s sister Ginny. Ron also has to deal with Professor Snape, who seems angry with him for some reason.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I (2010)
In this film, Harry finds out that Voldemort has gone to Hogwarts to find “The Deathly Hallows.” While searching for a Horcrux, Voldemort kills an old wizard named Albus Dumbledore, who is now dead but still protecting Harry. Unfortunately, there are two more Horcruxes that Lord Voldemort must find as well- one in his father’s coat, which Harry now possesses, and another in a ring that belonged to Bellatrix Lestrange.
After going on missions together, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger become closer as friends while Ron also starts dating Lavender Brown. Harry is trying to find his last Horcrux when he faces a determined Bellatrix Lestrange and her husband.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II (2011)
Lord Voldemort is after Harry and his friends because he wants to find the Elder Wand, which Harry has won. In this film, it seems like there’s no escape from Lord Voldemort as he plans on eliminating most of Hogwarts’ students while Harry struggles with what Dumbledore had left for him in memory. Will Lord Voldemort reign supreme, or will Harry defeat him at last? And if so, does that mean that Snape was loyal all along? These questions are answered in the final film of the Harry Potter series.
