Sean Astin plays him as a clumsy, illiterate Hobbit who refers to Frodo as Mr. Frodo because he hired him as a gardener despite the fact that he was his best friend and most faithful companion in the movies.
He is Frodo's fiercest companion and most devoted guardian, helping to destroy the One Ring and protecting him during the journey. For these reasons, he is considered the most devoted member of the Fellowship.
It's true what they say: we could all use a little Samwise Gamgee in our lives. And we can't help but envy Mr. Frodo for having such a wonderful travel companion along for the ride.
