The speakers at the top of the pens are encased in a rubber housing, so you won't mark your desk (or head), but you actually don't need a surface at all – use them in mid air!

Product Specification
Each pack contains two Rhythm Pens (1 x blue ink, 1 x red ink). Both pens feature an inbuilt speaker and the ability to produce 3 different drum sounds - drum, crash and snare.The pens are 15.5 cm long with a diameter of 3 cm at the speaker end. Each pen requires 3 x LR44 batteries (included) to power the drum mechanism. Both pens feature a power on/off switch.
