With Father's Day around the corner, we thought we'd give you a bit of a history lesson this month, on the off chance that like us, you always wondered about the origins of Father's Day, but never got round to finding out.
According to our research it seems that the notion of a day to honour Fathers came about in 1909, Spokane, Washington. Sonora Smart Dodd, inspired by a Mother's Day sermon, thought of dedicating a special day to her father, William Smart, who single-handedly raised his children.
The first Father's Day celebration was held on 19th June 1910, but it was not until 1972 when President Nixon established a national Father's Day.
Today, Dads are recognised on Father's Day by their families on different days in different countries - how are you celebrating Father's Day this year?
